Weezer Hates Australia: An Investigative Blog
May 19, 2011
Hi there, Weezer fans. I hope this blog post finds you well. Perhaps it won’t if you’re still slightly reeling, like myself, from being let down by Weezer declining to tour Australia for Soundwave Revolution.
This is not the first time Weezer have declined a promoter’s offer to come to Australia – the particular promotor that runs the Soundwave events has offered them Oz tours at least 30 times since 2003. This last time, he offered them a sum in the millions and they still declined. You can bet your entire Weezer CD collection that they have been offered numerous times by other promoters as well.
Ridiculously enough, the last time Weezer set foot in Australia was in 1996 when they toured with the Livid Festival. Quite a while ago, right? Since that time, Weezer have certainly grown in popularity in Australia, getting radio time with hits such as ‘Island in the Sun’, ‘Beverly Hills’, ‘Memories’ etc etc. There is definitely a fanbase here. If you google ‘Weezer Australia Petition’ you’ll be bombarded by a plethora of online petitions and Facebook pages dedicated to the motion.
The question this blog poses is:
WHY THE HECK WON’T THEY COME HERE?
It can’t be a travel issue – they tour Europe and Asia often. It’s not that they don’t do many live shows, because they certainly perform a lot of shows and do a lot of tours.
I plan to investigate the issues that may be causing Weezer to be hesitant to come back to Australia. Some reasons may be ridiculous and obviously wrong, while others… well, who knows! Maybe we can crack this tough-as-heck nut and perhaps be able to convince them that Australia isn’t such a bad place to tour afterall.

that someone actually read this to post it.
